From London to Panama

In early 2024, I spent two months in Panama, from January to March.

The plan was simple but exciting: help a close friend with marketing and hospitality at her luxury resort on a secluded island in Boca Brava. I didn’t realise then just how special the experience would turn out to be.

The journey itself was a little adventure. We flew internationally to New York, then on to Panama City, followed by a domestic flight to David. We were met by a private driver who seemed to know every corner of the region. From there, he took us in his van along winding country roads and finally, a boat carried us to the island.

Arriving at the resort was something else. We were treated like guests, staying in one of the rooms with all-inclusive service. It felt so luxurious. Even more special was being close to my friend, working together, sharing meals, and feeling that sense of purpose and connection.

After the weekend, our accommodation and meals were adjusted to match the staff’s working conditions. It was different – very different – but what stayed with me was the feeling of gratitude. Life on the island brought surprises, but it also brought perspective.
